Jamaica Index Soar 1%

Markets Jamaica rose sharply but in the Bahamas and Trinidad edged lower. Scotia Group Jamaica led the most active list and soared nearly 9%. Jamaica Producers Group Ltd decreased 1%.

World markets edged higher and New York trading was closed for a holiday. Crude oil and natural gas traded higher in London trading and the euro edged lower. LASCO filed offering prospectus for three of its subsidiaries with the Jamaica Stock Exchange.

Weekly Fractional Gains In Caribbean Markets

Caribbean markets indexes for the week closed higher tracking gains in the international markets. For the week, The JSE Market Index increased 1.2%, Trinidad Composite Index added 0.5%. and BSE index gained 0.4%.

Caribbean indexes rebounded after a week of weak trading. Scotia Group and Berger Paints closed higher. Trinidad markets closed unchanged.

The benchmark index in Jamaica declined nearly 1% tracking losses in the international markets. Trinidad index gained a fraction on low trading volume. Cable & Wireless and Sagicro Life Jamaica Ltd led the most active stocks.

Jamaican market index gained after declining for seven days in a row. For August the index declined 1.7%. For the year, the benchmark index in Jamaica is up 2.1%. Crude oil fell 9% and gold advanced 5.6% in New York trading.
