7:00 PM January 11, Miami, Florida – Caribbean market indexes traded higher in thin trading and world markets continued to drift lower for the second week in a row. Crude oil prices dipped to a new 12-year low and metals and iron ore traded at multi-year lows.
Market indexes in Jamaica rose and in Trinidad and The Bahamas closed mixed as world markets extended losses for the second week in a row.
In Jamaica trading, The JSE Market Index rose 1,053.22 or 0.7% to 157,776.59 and The JSE Select Index gained 89.82 or 1.7% to 5,433.88.
Trinidad Composite Index edged up 0.56 to 1,161.91. Bahamas Stock Exchange Index fell 0.18 to 1,828.90.
Of the 26 stocks traded on Jamaica Stock Exchange, 18 increased, 6 decreased and 2 were unchanged.
Jamaican dollar traded near record low and average buy rate against the U.S. dollar was 119.93 and sell rate was 120.68, according to the Bank of Jamaica website.
In Kingston trading today, 4.20 million units changed hands worth J$26.74 million and Ciboney Group Limited led the most active list with 1.32 million units followed Supreme Ventures Limited with 981,818 units.
Ciboney Group Limited added 1 cent to 26 cents and traded 1,318,523 shares and Cable & Wireless Jamaica Limited increased 7 cents to J$1.41 and traded 649,150.
Sagicor Group Jamaica Limited soared 30 cents to J$23.06 and traded 338,597.
Supreme Ventures Limited slid 1 cent to J$4.65 and traded 98,818 shares and National Commercial Bank Jamaica Ltd. dropped 28 cents to J$41.49 and traded 37,983.
Kingston Wharves Limited fell 1 cent to J$11.25 and traded 34,334.

Trinidad Composite Index edged up 0.56 to 1,161.91 and of the 11 stocks traded 3 advanced, 4 declined and 4 closed unchanged.
Sagicor Financial Corporation led the most active list and jumped 19 cents to TT$6.50 and traded 100,450 shares and National Commercial Bank Jamaica Limited rose 1 cent to TT$2.19 and traded 62,936.
Clico Investment Fund increased 2 cents to TT$22.75 and traded 2,007.
Prestige Holdings Limited fell 2 cents to TT$10.15 and traded 3,170 shares and The West Indian Tobacco Company Limited decreased 1 cent TT$126.27 and traded 1,177.
Unilever Caribbean Limited plunged 55 cents to TT$67.75 and traded 135.
