7:00 PM January 12, Miami, Florida – Caribbean markets closed mixed in thin trading and Jamaican dollar drifted to a new record low. World markets struggled as global economic growth may slow down more than expected.
Caribbean markets traded mixed in thin trading and Jamaica dollar edged lower to a new record low.
In Jamaica trading, The JSE Market Index slid 696.34 or 0.4% to 157,080.25 and The JSE Select Index edged up 10.34 or 0.2% to 5,444.22.
Trinidad Composite Index rose 1.26 to 1,163.17. Bahamas Stock Exchange Index decreased 4.61 or 0.3% to 1,824.31.
Of the 27 stocks traded on Jamaica Stock Exchange, 9 increased, 12 decreased and 6 were unchanged.
Jamaican dollar traded near record low and average buy rate against the U.S. dollar was 120.50 and sell rate was 120.71, according to the Bank of Jamaica website.
In Kingston trading today, 3.99 million units changed hands worth J$62.89 million and Supreme Ventures Limited led the most active list with 754,726 units followed MMB Group Limited with 666,056 units.
JMMB Group Limited advanced 11 cents to J$11.95 and traded 666,056 shares and Ciboney Group Limited added 1 cent to 27 cents and traded 198,400.
Caribbean Cement Company Ltd. surged J$1.67 to J$25.74 and traded 138,475.
Supreme Ventures Limited decreased 4 cents to J$4.61 and traded 754,726 shares and Scotia Group Jamaica Limited declined 22 cents to J$30.51 and traded 289,235.
Berger Paints Jamaica Ltd. plunged 39 cents to J$3.81 and traded 199,897.
