6:00 PM February 17, Miami – Market indexes in Bahamas and Jamaica declined but in Trinidad gained. Jamaican dollar held firm near its record low. Trading volume in Jamaica picked up to a high in the year so far.
The JSE Market Index slumped 177.74 or 0.2% to 79,436.55 and The JSE Select Index fell 8.76 to close at 2,256.81.
Trinidad Composite Index rose 0.54 to 1,193.21 and Bahamas Stock Exchange Index dropped 2.67 or 0.2% to 1,513.48.
Of the 15 stocks traded on Jamaica Stock Exchange, 4 increased, 6 decreased and 5 were unchanged.
Jamaican dollar hovered near its low and average buy rate against the U.S. dollar was 107.15 and average sell rate was 107.87 according to the website of Bank of Jamaica.
In Kingston trading today, 25.5 million units changed hands worth J$163.6 million and Jamaica Money Market Brokers Ltd. the most active list with 20.99 million units followed by LIME with 3.88 million units.
Jamaica Money Market Brokers Ltd. jumped 20 cents to J$7.49 and traded 20,986,665 and Scotia Group Jamaica rose 1 cent to J$21.02 and traded 100,768. Carreras Limited increased 11 cents to J$35.11 and traded 26,507.
Sagicor Real Estate X Fund Limited slipped 4 cents to J$7.06 and traded 13,960 and GraceKennedy Ltd. fell 2 cents J$55.01 and traded 8,061. Proven Investments Limited 8% lowered 1 cent J$35.09 and traded 3,061.
Trinidad Market Overview
Trinidad Composite Index rose 0.54 to 1,193.21 and of the 10 stocks traded 2 advanced, 2 declined and 6 closed unchanged.
Jamaica Money Market Brokers Limited led the most active list and rose 3 cents to 49 cents and traded 101,882 shares followed by First Citizens Bank Limited added 2 cents to TT$39 and traded 994.
Clico Investment Fund fell 30 cents to TT$21.70 and traded 23,294 shares and Sagicor Financial Corporation slid 1 cent to TT$7.74 and traded 1,029.
World Market Review
In European trading, FTSE 100 index climbed 1.2% or 79.80 to 6,743.42 and in Frankfurt the DAX index rose 0.1% or 8.33 to 9,670.73.
In Paris, CAC 40 index fell 0.04% or 1.91 to 4,338.23.
In Europe, India focused Essar Energy received takeover offer worth £900 million. Fidessa net jumped 5%. Hammerson profit in the year soared £262.6 million on property portfolio revaluation.
SGL Carbon and BMW plan to invest €100 million to double the production at a carbon fiber plant.
Essar Energy Plc, the India-focused energy company received 70 pence per share takeover offer from its majority owner Essar Global Fund worth about £900 million or $1.51 billion.
MorphoSys AG, the Germany-based biotechnology company received a milestone payment from Switzerland-based Novartis AG for the clinical trial application of anti-inflammatory treatment.
